Do I need to formally notify my customer that his delinquent account is going to be sent to a 3rd party collection agency?
No, it is not required that you inform your customer of your next step. However, depending on your billing practices and the individual customer, stating your intention to utilize a collection agency may generate a payment.
What if my customer calls me after I have assigned the account to collections? Do I need to continue to deal with him?
No, that is why we are here! Simply inform the debtor that the account has been assigned to a professional collection agency and they must deal directly with us.
My customer is paying $1.00 a month and says that I cannot send his account to a collection agency as long as he “pays something.” Is that true?
No, you are not barred from assigning an account to a professional collection agency simply because the debtor chooses to send in a nominal payment.
What kind of information do you need on an account?
The basic information we need on an assigned account include customer demographics; copies of contracts or agreements giving rise to the debt; and detailed accounting of charges, payments and adjustments.
Do I need to sign a contract to be a MEDCAH client?
Yes, we are happy to provide you with a standard collection contract and invite you to have it reviewed by your own legal counsel.
